Frequently asked questions

What should I check before buying a used car?
Request the VIN and verify it matches the engine and chassis plates. Pull the service history and, if available, an independent pre-purchase inspection (100–200 USD in most markets). Check for accident or flood history via a local report (Emirates Auction / Carfax-equivalent). Test-drive on a highway and at low speed; listen for gearbox slip, watch the dashboard for lit warnings.
How do I verify the seller actually owns the car?
Ask for the registration card (mulkiya in the UAE, техпаспорт in CIS markets) and compare the name on it with the seller's ID. If the seller is selling on behalf of someone else, a notarized power of attorney is expected. Never pay before the ownership transfer paperwork starts — many markets transfer title at a licensed centre with both parties present.
Is an imported car cheaper than a locally-specced one?
Imports (GCC vs. US / EU / JDM spec) are usually 10–25% cheaper up front but can cost more later: insurance premiums tend to be higher, some parts are harder to source, and dealer warranties may not apply. Local spec is usually the safer choice unless you know the model well and have a trusted mechanic.
What does the price usually include?
Most listings state "as is" and the price excludes ownership-transfer fees and new insurance. In the UAE that adds roughly AED 420 transfer + insurance (2–4% of vehicle value). Clarify with the seller: valid registration weeks remaining, spare key, service book, original tyres vs. aftermarket. Ask for a quick WhatsApp call to confirm before travelling to view.
